Iran set up a DNA database in 2006 to include convicted persons. According to Interpol, Iran's DNA database contained 3,000 reference DNA profiles from individuals, 3,500 crime scene DNA profiles, 2,000 missing persons' DNA profiles, plus 1,500 unidentified human remains DNA profiles in 2011. A DNA database legislation had been adopted at the time.
