DNA testing is used in specific police cases in Vietnam and in attempts to identify war dead and adopted children. In 2015, the FBI transferred DNA testing software to the Vietnam police. According to Interpol, Vietnam is planning a DNA database. In November 2023, Vietnam adopted a new law (Law No. 26/2023/QH15) allowing DNA to be added to its national Identity Database. According to this law, DNA could be collected voluntarily or as a result of criminal proceedings or ‘administrative handling measures', from 1st July 2024.
