Turkey does not have a DNA database or DNA database legislation. From 2009-13 it received funding to improve its forensic DNA testing capacity from the EU. Establishing a DNA database would be a requirement for Turkey to join the EU. According to Interpol, 100,000 crime scene DNA profiles, plus 25,000 reference DNA profiles from individuals were held in Turkey in 2011.
