Algeria has had a DNA testing laboratory since 2004. DNA is used in murder cases and to identify bodies of deceased persons, including terrorists. As in many Muslim countries, there is controversy surrounding use of DNA for paternity testing. Interpol's 2008 survey lists Algeria as a country where a DNA database is planned. At end 2013, Algeria was due to receive CODIS software from the USA. Algerian scientists have received US training in DNA forensics.
