Plans to build a DNA database in the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda were announced by Prince Andrew in 2005. The contract to establish and maintain a Bermuda criminal DNA database and a Bermudian general population database is with Florida-based firm Trinity DNA solutions. Bermuda has begun to implement a DNA database of arrested persons and to keep samples and DNA profiles indefinitely from innocent people, but it has not yet attempted to build the proposed general population database. In early March 2011 there were 2,500 people on Bermuda's DNA database.
